"No [it's not a joke], very serious. He's going to come into camp for about four weeks to help me."

Tyson Fury is preparing for a potential bout with Oleksandr Usyk by bringing in the best training partners on the planet.

That's right, none other than Wayne Rooney will be joining the WBC heavyweight champion in his fight camp ahead of the expected unification title fight.

But it turns out Manchester United's record goal scorer isn't just working on a bit of fitness with Fury, as he's actually planning on sparring him too.

"I spoke to Wayne and he's well up for it," Fury told ITV.

"We're going to bring Wayne in for preparation for Oleksandr Usyk. No [it's not a joke], very serious. He's going to come into camp for about four weeks to help me."

Tyson Fury has now said Wayne Rooney has agreed to spar him: "I spoke to Wayne and he's well up for it. We're gonna bring Wayne in for preparation for Oleksandr Usyk. No [it's not a joke], very serious. He's going to come into camp for about four weeks to help me." [@ITVNews]

While his football exploits speak for themselves, Rooney has never shied away from the fact that he's a massive boxing fan either and regularly attends huge fights.

It just so happens that he's an even bigger Tyson Fury fan too.

"I think he's the best we've seen in a long time, and I don't think anyone will beat him. I think he's an absolute legend for what he's done for boxing. He's entertaining, his skills are incredible, his mentality is incredible," Rooney told talkSPORT after Fury's recent victory over Derek Chisora.

"If I'm being honest, I probably think he should be knighted because he hasn't been afraid to go abroad, he's won titles abroad, defended them abroad and he epitomises everything that boxing is."

🤩 “Rooney is a proper legend!”

🥊 “He’s a massive boxing fan and comes from a boxing family!”

Rooney's comments were clearly heard by Fury himself, who fired right back with some kind words of his own.

"Wayne Rooney is a proper legend," Fury said.

"And I grew up watching him as a youngster for England and United. So, that's [an] amazing, amazing speech from him.

"He's a massive boxing fan, he comes from a boxing family as well. So, hopefully, we can have a little spar in the future sometime. I do need someone smaller to prepare for Usyk. Wayne, if you're listening, get on the blower, son."
