Deontay Wilder Lays Out Bermane Stiverne With First Round Knockout

The American called out fellow heavyweight titlist Anthony Joshua after making the sixth defence of his WBC title with a brutal knockout.

Deontay Wilder laid out Bermane Stiverne, the man he won his world title from, with a first round knockout and then immediately called out Anthony Joshua for a fight to find out who really is the best heavyweight out there.

Last weekend in Cardiff Anthony Joshua defended his world titles against late replacement Carlos Takam. The Brit doled out a lot of punishment and his opponent took it for 10 rounds before the ref stopped the fight.

Just a week later it was Deontay Wilder's turn. The Bronze Bomber stands in the way of AJ unifying the division and is also undefeated like the 2012 Olympic champion. Unlike Joshua's prolonged fight Wilder made short work of his opponent.

Wilder had also meant to have been up against different opposition and was supposed to fight Luis Ortiz before Oritz' failed drugs test. He made light work of Stiverne, who he'd beaten in 2015 for the title, with a big knockout:

Wilder had been taken the distance to w

in the title when the two men fought at the MGM Grand over two years ago and his aggressive demeanour as the ref stopped the fight really made him look like a man who wanted to hurt his opponent and send a message.

After the fight he really sent a message to Joshua saying, "I know I am the best. Are you up for the test? I've been waiting on that fight for a long time now. I declare war upon you. Do you accept my challenge?"

Dillian Whyte had previously been put forward as a challenger for Wilder by AJ's promoters Matchroom and won the WBC's silver title last weekend and despite Wilder turning down that fight previously Wilder took to Twitter:

The American's performance on Saturday night was in no doubt impressive whilst Joshua's defence last weekend was one of his less impressive fights but if AJ had beaten Stiverne people would be questioning the quality of the Canadian.

Of course Joshua vs Wilder is the fight we'd all love to see and it's definitely getting closer. Will it be summer time in Wembley for a showdown of two unbeaten heavyweights?
