There's one notable omission...

Conor McGregor is swapping the octagon for the squared circle in 12 days time and ahead of his mega-bout with Floyd Mayweather, the 29-year old has picked out his favourite boxers from past and present.

For the first time in his professional career, 'Notorious' will be inside a boxing ring against quite possibly the best pound-for-pound boxer of our generation, and speaking to the media during his open workout on Friday, selected a few fighters old and new that he enjoys watching.

The two-weight UFC champion started off with three of the all-time greats, before picking out two of the very best in the current boxing landscape as well as having praise for Mayweather's prodigy Gervonta David and Chris Eubank, Sr and Jr.

"Roy Jones, I like Roy Jones a lot and have been a big fan of his. Muhammad Ali, of course. There's been a lot throughout history," he said in a media scrum.

"Prince Naseem is another one. Currently today I like Rigondeaux. Lomachenko is another one. I think them two should fight. Canelo and Golovkin, I'm not too much of a fan of either of those - although they are supposedly up there I don't really think they are. Floyd's young kid, Gervonta Davis, is a strong kid, maybe one or two fights and I can see him in the mix there. Historically, Ali, Roy Jones, Prince Naseem - I like Chris Eubank Senior, Junior's not bad as well, he's got some good workrate and he follows in his father's footsteps. I always liked Eubank [Sr], he was an unusual character, he moved in certain ways and he had good, solid power in his shots.

"I was a big Bernard Dunne fan, he brought boxing back in Ireland and bigged it up. There's been many great boxers. I've been watching every form of combat from taekwondo, karate to boxing, to brazilian jiu-jitsu, to freestyle wrestling. I love combat sport and I'm grateful that now I get to fight in a different sport."

The build-up to the fight has largely consisted of McGregor ripping into his upcoming opponent with a series of verbal jabs, but he did actually praise 'Money' in this interview.

"Floyd has been good." he said.

"Floyd gets a lot of stick in my opinion for his style. I remember way back when he was preparing to face Hatton people were ridiculing how he hit pads.

"Then all of a sudden when his career goes and he does what he does - then everyone is mimicking his approach.

"It's kind of similar to me right now. They're mimicking how I move, how I approach the game. And I go and do what I do and they mimic me."

As refreshing as it is to hear McGregor talk passionately about boxing and his top fighters, there was one glaring omission from his answer.

Mike Tyson, a man who won his first 37 fights in five years before succumbing to a shock defeat to Buster Douglas in the Tokyo Dome in 1990, and finished a ferocious but controversy-packed career with 44 KO's out in 58 fights, does not get a mention.

It might have something to do with 'Iron' Mike calling McGregor a 'dumbass' ahead of his bout with Mayweather...
