Boxing fans are convinced there's a 'time traveller' in 1995 Mike Tyson fight video

The popular theory has emerged once again.

Boxing fans think a 'time traveller' was sat inside the MGM Grand during Mike Tyson's victory over Peter McNeeley in 1995.

'Iron Mike' destroyed McNeeley in his first fight since being released from prison. He won via disqualification after McNeeley's manager got into the ring.

Tyson showed no remorse in Las Vegas, destroying his opponent.

In the years since the debate surrounding the fight isn't what went on between the ropes. Instead, it's what HBO cameras picked up just outside them.

As Tyson prepares to start the fight, a spectator holds up what looks like a smartphone vertically to take a picture.

The first smartphone didn't release until 1996 when Nokia dropped the Nokia 2110.

Nowadays, the market leaders in mobile phone development are Apple and Samsung, with sleek designs.

It's completely different to what's shown in the video, with the device resembling a brick.

Some speculated the individual was holding a Samsung Star, a previous model of Samsung.

Inside Edition's YouTube video has over 1 million views at the time of writing, with the debate raging in the comments section.

One person commented: "I’m surprised the government hasn’t done a Men In Black and erased our memory of this."

A second put: "I remember watching this live and wondering what it was."

Someone tweeted: "Has the time traveller pulled the wool over everyone's eye?"

While another added: "Whoever filmed this needs to upload it."

The popular broadcaster went on to debunk the myth with an explanation of their own. Inside Edition believes the device to be an early form of the Dycam Logitech camcorder.

Snopes went even further by suggesting it could even be a form of Casio camcorder.

The website, known for busting popular conspiracy theories, said: "Although the photographic device seen here does resemble a type of camera phone not sold until several years after 1995, it also resembles any one of a number of handheld cameras that were in fact widely available in 1995.

It continued: "The resolution and size of the original video make it difficult to determine specific features of the device glimpsed here, but we found a number of cameras that are both similar to what's seen in the video and were commonly available in 1995, most notably the Casio QV-10A, the Casio QV-100 and the Logitech Fotoman."
