'He has to step his way up' - Jake Paul tipped to become future boxing world champion

'He has to step his way up' - Jake Paul tipped to become future boxing world champion

Shane Mosley believes that YouTube star Jake Paul should fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr next if he beats Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia.

Former three-weight boxing world champion Shane Mosley has refused to rule out the idea that YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul could win a title in the future.

Paul faces the toughest test of his fledgling – and divisive – boxing career on Sunday when he clashes with former Love Island star Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia.

The 26-year-old American has been heavily criticised since he entered the sport and over the quality of opponents he has faced inside the squared circle.

Paul, who is undefeated in his boxing career, has faced off against the likes of former NBA star Nate Robinson and ex-UFC stars Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley.

The ‘Problem Child’ emerged victorious in his last outing against UFC legend Anderson Silva last October, with Paul picking up a unanimous decision win.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has confirmed that Paul could earn himself a place in the cruiserweight rankings if he manages to dispatch Fury in his super-fight.

Speaking ahead of Paul vs Fury, Mosley has suggested that the YouTuber should fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr next in a bid to improve his boxing resume.

However, the retired American boxer urged Paul to keep on training hard and the possibility of becoming a boxing world champion could happen.

“It is a possibility because he has the frame, he has the speed, he has the power, he might need to lose a little bit of weight, but he fights at cruiserweight so maybe he goes down to light-heavyweight,” Mosley told FightHype, as per Marca.

“It is going to be hard for him at any of the weights, once you get to that level, then he has got to work with the right people.

“But, like right now, it will probably take him, two, three, four years to even be in that section, that area.

“He is not there yet, but if he fights the right people, then maybe he can do it.

“Maybe he should fight Chavez Jr or something, or he fights this guy [Fury] and he wins, then fight Chavez Jr.

“Anderson Silva fought him already, maybe he should fight him and see what happens.

“He has to step his way up, keep stepping his way up and the way he looks now, he can do it.

“The way he is training now, continue to train, continue to believe, yeah, why not?”
