Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather says he is very interested in working with Francis Ngannou in this new career direction.

The former UFC heavyweight champion shockingly parted ways with the company back in January 2023 after it was revealed that a new deal couldn’t be reached.

The Cameroonian later admitted that he was keen on pursuing heavyweight boxing away from MMA - and making a lot of money while he was at it.

Well, one man who knows a lot about making some dough in the sport has recently revealed his interest in signing Ngannou to Mayweather Promotions.

In an interview with Bet Online, Mayweather admitted he was keen on helping launch the boxing career of the heavyweight.

He said: “I would love to work with (Ngannou).

“I would love to sign him to Mayweather Promotions. He’s a very skilled guy, unbelievable, and if he wants to fight one of the top heavyweight guys, he should do it.”

The 36-year-old has fought out his contract with the UFC while still holding the heavyweight belt.

Betting on himself and believing he had been low-balled by Dana White, Ngannou has become extremely vocal about his desire to venture into boxing.

No fights have been finalised since then, however, a bout against British star Tyson Fury has been heavily rumoured.

Mayweather believes Ngannou has what it takes to hang with the best in heavyweight boxing.

When asked if Ngannou could compete with the elite in the division, he replied: “Absolutely.

“With his size, strength and power – anything can happen. With his power and his toughness, he can make some noise in the heavyweight division.”

However, there’s certainly a possibility that Ngannou sits on the sidelines until at least 2024 as other heavyweights plan on a date in Saudi Arabia.

Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn revealed that ‘coversations’ had taken place about hosting a huge foru-man heavyweight boxing tournament in Saudi Arabia.

It would see Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk and Deontay Wilder vs Anthony Joshua happen on the same night.

Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn insisted that his focus is getting a “big mega-fight in December over the line” for two-time former unified champ Joshua.

“There have definitely been conversations that have taken place where people would like to host [Tyson] Fury against [Oleksansdr] Usyk and AJ against [Deontay] Wilder on the same night,” he said.

“It will cost a lot of money, but it would be our pick, and we will have those conversations. Our focus is to get that big mega-fight in December over the line.

“There is no official decision in terms of whether AJ will fight in July. Some of that may come around the deal or the decision or the completion of that fight in December.

“I would quite like to see him fight. I think he would like to fight in July, but right now, he’s not in camp for a July fight.”
