Fresh fears Mike Tyson could pull out of rearranged Jake Paul fight as details of new tests emerge

Fresh fears have emerged that Mike Tyson may pull out of his re-arranged fight with Jake Paul.

Fresh fears have emerged that Mike Tyson may be forced to pull out of his re-arranged fight with Jake Paul.

The bout between YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul and former heavyweight champion Tyson will take place on November 15 in Texas, with the original date having been postponed.

The fight had initially been scheduled to take place on July 20 but Tyson, who turns 58 later this month, had to pull out due to medical advice after a recent ulcer flare-up.

"Although we had to postpone the fight, I will resume training shortly. I am thankful to the medical staff that treated me," said Tyson last week. “While we have a new date, the result will be the same no matter when we fight. Jake Paul is getting knocked out."

The Tyson-Paul contest has been sanctioned as a professional fight, but will only be eight, two-minute rounds while 14oz gloves must be worn, rather than 10oz.

Though the new fight date has been announced, head of communications for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Tela Mange said several tests needed to be conducted on both fighters before the event could go ahead.

As per Boxing News, Mange said: “They [Most Valuable Promotions, Paul’s team] have requested November 15, and we have approved that date.

“At this point, the fight remains an eight-round contest over two-minute rounds with 14-ounce gloves.

“As I think I’ve said before, the Department will stay informed about the health of the combatants and will obtain more information if needed to protect their health and safety.

“In addition to pre-licensing medical screening, TDLR’s ringside physicians also conduct pre-fight physicals before the event.

“TDLR rules state that licensure does not automatically authorise an individual to participate in an event if their health or safety could be compromised.”
