Before trading leather, Saul Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin traded words in the pre-fight press conference which included the most awkward handshake in combat sport history.

The pair of middleweight world champions will rematch on May 5th following the controversial draw in September 2017.

Ahead of the summer showdown, 'Canelo' and 'GGG' took part in media obligations. From television shows to pressers. Not to mention the customary face-off.

And in the Los Angeles, California, stop, the two produced an incredibly awkward moment.

The Mexican superstar threw a curve ball by offering a fist-pump, while the Kazakh destroyer went for the traditional handshake.

They salvaged the interaction by eventually shaking hands.

Still f*cked up though, lads.

Before shaking hands, 'Canelo' and 'GGG' spoke to the media, detailing the first bout while talking up their chances in the rematch.

"I've seen the first fight. I know the changes I must make. That's going to be the key to victory. It's about adding more things to the preparation. We're going to add to the arsenal and add more conditioning, punches and aggression. I need to add more punches and aggression for the victory to be clear. The best way to win this fight is by knockout. It's not easy, but I can do it.," Alvarez said.

Here's Golovkin's thoughts: "I've done my homework. I know what I need to do to win this fight. This fight will be even bigger. After the first fight, I felt good. I felt I won the fight and I was comfortable. I've had a lot of time to rest. This fight will be different. I don't make predictions, but I know I will give a big show."

Golovkin, who owns the WBA, WBC and IBF belts, will be targeting another world title in the shape of Alvarez's coveted The Ring Magazine strap.
