This is a classic look behind the WWE curtain.

Matt Hardy has revealed what WWE Chairman Vince McMahon said to himself and brother Jeff ahead of their memorable return to the company back at Wrestlemania 33.

Speaking with co-host Jon Alba on his podcast The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the former WWE star detailed just how worried company bosses were about the brothers' return given they were scheduled to face The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) in a ladder match in Ring of Honor the night before 'Mania.

"Right when we get to the (ROH) venue, Michael Hayes (WWE producer) calls me," Hardy said.

"I had to call you because you're the leader. Don't let Brother Nero (Jeff) go out there and kill himself tonight, okay?" Hayes told Hardy.

"I know it's a ladder match but it's not important. Tomorrow's Wrestlemania. That's the real ladder match."

"Vince is worried one of you is going to get f***** up. Make sure it doesn't happen, okay?"

Hardy then received another call, this time from Triple H.

"I just wanted to make sure that you're going all over Jeff's spots, right? You're making sure he's not going to do anything stupid, right?" Hunter asked Hardy.

"Tomorrow is Wrestlemania, and we've got big plans for you guys. You guys are just having a smart, easy ladder match tonight, right?"

"Let The Young Bucks do all that s***. They are smart and healthy, let them do everything."

If the first two calls weren't enough, Hardy received another call from Triple H but this time, he also spoke directly to McMahon himself.

"Look, f***. Make sure Jeff doesn't do anything f****** stupid and cripple himself tonight. I f****** know how he is. Real him in! It's Wrestlemania tomorrow, damn-it!," McMahon told Hardy.

The Hardy's would lose the ROH Tag Team Championships to The Young Bucks but would get through the match unscathed to create one of the most memorable Wrestlemania moments in history when they returned to the WWE for the first time in seven-years.

They would win the Raw Tag Team Championships in a fatal four-way ladder match against Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows, Cesaro & Sheamus and Big Cass & Enzo Amore with Jeff saving his death-defying ladder spot of the weekend for 'Mania.

The Hardy's return to WWE would be short-lived however with both men now signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) with Matt debuting in 2020 while Jeff would jump ship in early 2022.
