Surfing Legend Kelly Slater Unloads On 'Appalling' PM Scott Morrison Over Aussie Floods

And as it stands, 17 people have sadly lost their lives as a result of the crisis.

Kelly Slater has gone to town on Scott Morrison, slamming the Australian Prime Minister for his handling of the flood crisis.

Thousands of Aussies have lost their homes, livelihoods, cars and even loved ones as the wet weather continues to wreak havoc across the country.

And as it stands, 17 people have sadly lost their lives as a result of the crisis.

It's certainly a tough time for many New South Wales and Queensland residents.

But a bunch of people haven't been too pleased with the federal government's overall response to the disaster - 11-time surfing world champion Slater being one of them.

"The lack of federal assistance in the flood zones in northern NSW has been nothing short of appalling. The stories from friends are hard to comprehend," Slater wrote on his Instagram.

"But the gathering of local communities has been inspiring to watch from afar. So while the MP @scottmorrisonmp and cohorts pat themselves on the back or poke fun at people who 'live in the gum trees', the communities will continue to get on with the tasks at hand in helping their neighbours."

Slater, who recently won the Pipeline Pro for an eighth time just a few days before his 50th birthday, has been using his platform on social media to share stories of those impacted by the floods.

Shortly also shared a screenshot of a text message exchange with an unknown person.

"Mate there is absolutely zero help," the messages read.

"People have been paying for helicopters to get supplies to remote areas.

"People that have been rescued have said that helicopters have just been filming him for five days. They drop nothing and just keep filming him.

"Scott Morrison is the biggest joke in Australian history. It's seriously that bad. The stories that I have heard are just mind blowing.

"The army turned up and filmed themselves unpacking a trailer then left.

"The stories that I have heard are just mind-blowing. So many people dead and they have been withholding it for some reason.

"Apparently hundreds of people have died."

This isn't the first time Slater butted heads with old ScoMo.

In the past, the legendary wave-rider has been pretty vocal in his opposition to the Covid-19 vaccine, so when he was told that he may not be able to compete Down Under if he's not jabbed, Slater kicked off.

"Maybe Stockholm Syndrome can now change its name to Melbourne/Australia Syndrome," he said in a post online.

"It's sad to see the celebrated division by the 'virtuous' vaccinated. If you're vaccinated why are you concerned/worried about anyone else's status... unless, of course, it doesn't protect you?

"Or you're scared you'll catch it or upset you had to take the risk of vaccination yourself? So much brainwashed hatred in people's hearts regardless of vax status."

Max Sherry is a journalist for SPORTbible Australia. After migrating Down Under from London as a teenager, he instantly fell in love with Aussie sport and its culture. From NRL to AFL, cricket to rugby — you name it, Max watches it (with a beer in hand, of course). During his time at Fox Sports, he worked in the football department covering the Premier League, A-League, Socceroos and Matildas. Born a stone's throw away from West Ham's training ground, Max is obviously a die-hard Liverpool fan.
