The wait is over.

That's right, basketball fans and gamers alike will be pleased to know that NBA 2K21 has finally hit the shelves.

The latest edition of the top-selling NBA video game is now available on current-generation platforms in Australia and New Zealand - and eager die-hards are already flocking to the Neighbourhood.

In one of the most highly-anticipated gaming drops of 2020, 2K21 is set to offer fans a unique, one-of-a-kind experience into basketball culture - both on, and off, the court.

And if NBA 2K20's success is anything to go by, this next iteration of the game is poised to well and truly break the mould.

The NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Edition is also available for purchase.

"This may be one of the most unique years for the NBA and basketball gaming ever, and the team at Visual Concepts is proud to bring NBA 2K21 to millions of players around the world," said Greg Thomas, president at Visual Concepts.

"We're very excited to jump on the sticks and join our community of players today; we can't wait to see you on the court."

From the latest music and clothing drops to the intricate details in player movement and AI, 2K21 has NBA tragics chomping at the bit to get amongst it - and now they can finally do so.

The game features improved user experience including ball handling, jump shots, layups and dunks.

But while updated rosters, jerseys, shoes and arenas are all well and good, it's NBA 2K21's brand new features and improvements that has the basketball community truly excited.

And for Neighbourhood players especially, we have some good news.

The park and its location has become somewhat iconic in the gaming community down the years - a place where friends can meet up and compete against complete strangers in 1v1s, 2v2s, 3v3s and 5v5s... all while talking a bit of trash, of course!

But now it appears 2K have decided to switch things up a little as the new Neighbourhood will go beachside in the sweltering sun.

On top of that, there's a big-name addition on the game modes front.

2K has introduced 'Your G.O.A.T. Team' which gives players the opportunity to create a custom-built squad of their favourite NBA superstars - both past and present.

Meaning NBA fanatics can hit the MyTEAM mode and compete against some of the most deadly lineups the NBA has never seen before.

Oh, and while the on-court experience continues to push the boundaries of modern-day gaming, even the subtle element of a brand-new soundtrack has had people buzzing for months on end now.

Portland Trail Blazers talisman Damian Lillard may feature on the cover of the game, but he also appears on the soundtrack with NBA 2K21 exclusively debuting two Dame D.O.L.L.A. tracks.

Fans can get their hands on a special Mamba Forever edition.

And a part from the slick new cover featuring Lillard, 2K also released a special 'Mamba Forever' edition of the game to pay tribute to NBA legend Kobe Bryant.

The custom Kobe No.8 edition - which includes dual-access to NBA 2K21 for current and next-gen versions of the game - is available for $149.95 on Xbox One and PlayStation4, and $139.95 on Windows PC.

Meanwhile, the standard Lillard edition is priced at $99.95 on Xbox One and PlayStation4, and $89.95 on Nintendo Switch, Windows PC and Google Stadia.

For the past 19 years, 2K has been the top-selling, top-rated NBA video game series.

Now, the latest edition in a long line of successful games has finally hit the shelves.
