It's not everyday North American actors make a bid to buy a UK football club, but when it happens it creates an almighty stir.

But, if you can believe it, Deadpool's Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia have been revealed as potential investors to buy Welsh side Wrexham.

Members of the National League club were asked to vote on whether they would allow such a purchase and the response was overwhelming.

A statement on Wrexham's website said: "As confirmed this morning, 97.5% of voters (1,223 members) voted in favour of the resolution.

"As a result, talks with the proposed bidders will now continue and we are in a position to confirm the two people interested in investing in Wrexham AFC.

"Rob McElhenney is an American actor, director, producer and screenwriter, best known as the creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Ryan Reynolds is an award-winning Canadian actor, writer, producer and business entrepreneur whose credits include Marvel's Deadpool.

"In due course, Mr McElhenney and Mr Reynolds will put forward their vision for Wrexham AFC and proposal for members to vote on at a second special general meeting."

Because they're actors, it's easy to assume they have enough coin stashed away to buy a fully-fledged football club.

But Reynolds recently sold his gin company to Diageo for a reported $610 million and he is also a director at Match Group, who oversee a whole host of dating websites including Tinder and Hinge. So, he definitely might have some spare change lying around.

The reason why these two actors are interesting in buying a football club on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean hasn't been revealed.

The North Wales outfit have been 100 per cent fan run but could soon be owned by a Golden Globe nominee with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

It will be interesting to see what the two actors' pitch will be to convince the club to accept their offer, which has also not been disclosed yet.
