An Olympic champion has been disqualified from the 1500m final at the World Athletics Championship after it was ruled that he broke a strict rule in Monday's semi-final.
The final is slated to take place at the National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday but as it stands, reigning Olympic champ Cole Hocker will not be participating.
In the closing stretch of the second of two heats in the semi-finals, Team USA runner Hocker put his arm out as he tried to squeeze past Germany's Robert Farken and Stefan Nillessen of the Netherlands in a tight space.
He made contact with Germany's Robert Farken, who ended up missing out on the top six and qualification for the final as a result.

Although the contact was minimal on the overtake attempt, many viewers described it as a "dirty tactic" that had to be punished.
It was ruled that the 24-year-old fell foul of the strict "jostling” rules implemented by World Athletics and Hocker, who beat both Josh Kerr and Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the final in Paris, was disqualified.
Having finished seventh, South Africa’s Tshepo Tshite was moved into the top six and Farken also secured passage to the final following an appeal for Germany.
The USA were left furious and it quickly emerged that they would be counter-appealing the decision.

"The Americans will counter protest," former 1500m world champion Steve Cram said on the BBC's coverage.
"They are sitting behind us and are absolutely miffed.
"That is the Olympic champion, it's not good for the sport because we'd love him to be in there [the final]. But on the other hand, Hocker panicked there. He did impede the German athlete, Farken, who has been advanced to the final.
"We'll probably get up tomorrow and find that the Americans have counter appealed. But at the moment, he's not in."

USA appeal verdict to no avail
However their efforts were unsuccessful as their appeal was denied and Hocker will not have the chance to become world champion.
"We are disappointed by the decision to disqualify Olympic Champion Cole Hocker from the Men’s 1500m Final," the USATF said in a statement.

"We believed we had grounds for an appeal and unfortunately, that appeal was denied.
The absence of Hocker, as well as Ingebrigtsen after his surprise first round elimination, gives Team GB a higher chance of securing podium in the race.
Kerr is joined by fellow Team GB runners Neil Gourley and Jake Wightman in the final, which also includes 20-year-old Dutch star Niels Laros after he recorded the fastest time in the semi-finals.
