Team USA medalist Noah Lyles went up against YouTube star IShowSpeed in a sprint race for $100,000 and fans were left shocked by the outcome.

During this summer Olympic Games in Paris, France, Lyles was one of the main stars of the show as he came in as the favourite to clinch gold in both the 100m and the 200m.

The American won 100m gold ahead of Kishane Thompson and Fred Kerley but was beaten by Letsile Tebogo and Kenneth Bednarek in the 200m.

This week, Lyles took on YouTube sensation IShowSpeed in a 50m sprint with $100,000 on the line.

Many would have expected the professional athlete to comfortably win the race but IShowSpeed managed to stay close to the Olympian, with Lyles just crossing the finish line first.

IShowSpeed then claimed the race was a draw, with Lyles stating he started high-stepping after taking the lead.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: "Speed barely lost against the olympic champion, straight after a 3 hour drive. That's impressive. Huge W."

Another commented: "All jokes aside that was CRAZY CLOSE."

A third fan added: "A 19 year old kid got that close to the “ fastest man alive”. Now imagine what would happen if he was professionally trained."

Someone else wrote: "I don’t know about yall, but the race being THAT CLOSE, is actually MIND BOGGLING. Full Props to Speed."

A fifth added: "The fact that speed was so close to winning and he admitted defeat while hitting 33 million in one day is a HUGE accomplishment. Congrats speed and keep training!"

Another fan said: "Speed ngl, that was CRAZY DUDEEE! like a 19 year old being so close to olympic champion, HUGE WW."

After winning the race, Lyles stated he would be donating the $100,000 prize money to charity.

Back in August, Lyles was asked how long he thinks it will take for someone to beat the world record times set by Jamaican legend Usain Bolt.

As reported by The Bleacher Report, Lyles said: "I'm trying to get it done as soon as possible.

"Unfortunately I don't have a crystal ball, so I can't give you an exact date. But as athletes we're always looking to improve ourselves, and we're always looking for greater challenges. I think everyone sees the world record as No. 1, that's incredible and No. 2, I want that to be me."
