The final runner at the London Marathon was clapped and cheered across the line in wonderful moment

The 2023 London Marathon took place on Sunday

The last runner at the 2023 London Marathon was greeted with a brilliant reception as he was clapped and cheered across the line.

A large number of people always turn out for the London Marathon as some aim to raise money for good courses whilst others do it for fun.

On Sunday, whilst many participants had already finished, the last remaining runner was cheered across the line by fans lining the final stretch of the course. You can watch the footage below.

The London Marathon’s official Twitter account wrote: “One of the greatest moments of every London Marathon - your 2023 final finisher. We’re in awe of your determination to finish what you started.”

Whilst fans were quick to react to the wonderful moment on social media.

One said: “An absolute hero! What strength of character, grit and determination! Phenomenal.”

Another tweeted: “Actual tears watching this - the determination is outstanding!!! Huge congrats to you - officially a marathon runner!!”

A third fan added: “Thank you for allowing him to finish and for celebrating him! Marathons are hard! Congratulations to him!”

Someone else wrote: “Well done to this guy. He wasn’t last, he beat everyone who has never managed to run a marathon- including me. Hats off to him!”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Still faster than the ones that didn’t even start. He’s joined a very special club! Well done.”

In the comments section, a few people posted a JustGiving link and they said it belonged to the man who finished the marathon last.

Tom Durnin was running to raise money for Bone Cancer Research and he wrote on the campaign: “I am in full training now and pushing myself through every session trying to get as fit as I can, which is not normally my thing I will be honest.”
