Fiorentina are preparing to launch a final bid for Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira after distancing themselves from the pre-agreed £12.8 million fee placed in the midfielder’s loan deal.

Following a successful spell in Florence throughout the 2021/22 campaign, hope was that the out-of-favour Gunners midfielder would land a permanent switch to Italy but the Serie A outfit have since baulked at the ex-Sampdoria man’s price tag.

The Italians, according to a report from journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, are now preparing a final bid for as little as £6 million in an attempt to sway Torreira at a cut-price, as they eye new targets in his place. Half of what Mikel Arteta and Edu were hoping to receive for his signature.

As per the same report, Fiorentina are hopeful of luring Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch, who’ll be available on a free transfer by the end of this month.

But fans of the club have already made their wishes to land Torreira very public, with the player himself expressing his desire to stay with ‘I Viola’ ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Torreira joined the Gunners in 2018 for a £26-million transfer fee but quickly fell out of Mikel Arteta’s plans prior to loan spells with Atlético Madrid and, most recently, Fiorentina.

The North Londoners are demanding a sizeable portion of their initial investment back, with concrete developments around a potential permanent switch to the Artemio Franchi Stadium expected towards the end of this week.

Arsenal are likely to bring in a midfielder or two of their own this summer, with links to the likes of Youri Tielemans and Yves Bissouma ahead of what will be a busy transfer window.
