Arsenal are looking to rekindle their January interest in Brazilian midfielder Arthur, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.

Rewind things back to January, a look at the daily news cycle out of Italy regularly hinted at an impending deal occurring as the Gunners looked to bolster their midfield options. The dire need for midfield strength plus technical director Edu’s Brazilian connections made the deal appear a formality, but such a move did not come to fruition.

Fast forward to June, and the rumours have reignited, with Calciomercato reporting that Juventus sporting director Federico Cherubini has held talks through intermediaries with numerous clubs, one of those being the red side of North London.

After these intermediary talks had been held, the Italian outfit now claimed that the “only solution” for Arthur’s future is departure from the warm rays of Turin for the ever-changing British weather.

Arthur’s career at the home of the Italian giants has been a rocky one, never truly nailing down a starting berth since swapping Barcelona for the Italian heartlands, a deal that benefited neither party, with Miralem Pjanic’s career facing similar stagnation as he headed in the opposite direction.

However, Arsenal’s midfield interests would appear to be much closer to home. A move for Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans is increasingly gaining traction, and Brighton midfield general Yves Bissouma has been basically pleading on social media to join the Gunners.

There’s no doubt that Arteta will be strengthening the Gunners’ midfield for the upcoming season, however, one suspects a deal will be made domestically rather than importing from The Old Lady
