Olympique Marseille president Pablo Longoria has been spotted in London, meeting up with William Saliba’s agent for dinner, per Fabrizio Romano.

Saliba spent his last season on loan at Marseille, where he had a major role for the French side.

He made 52 appearances, and secured the Ligue 1 young player of the season award.

His performances also earned him his first call up to the French national side, where he played against both Ivory Coast and South Africa.

Since his breakthrough season in France, Saliba has returned to England and featured in most of Arsenal’s pre-season fixtures and has stood out for boss Mikel Arteta.

Arteta has described the centre back as a “top player” and has also been thrilled with his progress, saying:

“I am pleased to see the way he is playing.

“The way he has adapted to the team, the maturity he has shown at 21 years old.

“We will keep developing him, he has huge potential.”

Other huge clubs have also taken an interest in Saliba, including Spanish giants Barcelona.

However, since his return to Arsenal, the club have made it clear they have one main goal.

To keep him at the club and secure a new contract extension, despite the defender not playing a minute of competitive football yet.

With just two years left on his current deal, the Gunners have had a high interest in tying down Saliba to a new deal, as they see him as a vital part of the club’s future.

In Arsenal’s most recent fixture, a 4-0 win over London rivals Chelsea, Saliba played the full 90 minutes in centre-back, moving last season’s first choice Ben White into right back.

Many believe this could be a common theme this season, as Saliba is set to fight for his place in the starting side.

Despite the meeting with Marseille, there would have to be a large bid to tempt Arsenal into letting go of Saliba, as they are only interested in keeping him for many years to come.

It's also worth noting the topic of discussion during the dinner has not been specified.

William Saliba's agent, Djibril Niang, has other clients, including recent Marseille signing Isaak Toure.

Arsenal's intentions regarding William Saliba have been made clear. Fans will have to wait to see if the defender will sign a new deal with the Gunners, but the signs are positive.
