Serie A Side AC Monza Close To Signing Arsenal Defender

Serie A Side AC Monza Close To Signing Arsenal Defender

Serie A side AC Monza are reportedly close to the signing of Arsenal defender Pablo Mari.

Arsenal defender Pablo Mari is reportedly close to signing for AC Monza, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Di Marzio reports that the parties want to close the deal in the next 48 hours.

Fenerbahce had been linked, with rumours of a reunion between Mari and former Flamengo manager Jorge Jesus.

However, Turkish source Yagiz Sabuncuoglu ended those rumours today, claiming Monza had made an official offer for the Spaniard.

Mari's representatives have also travelled to Italy to negotiate the transfer, according to Sabuncuoglu.

Mari follows a number of players Arsenal are looking to offload this summer.

Bernd Leno is reportedly having a medical to join Fulham for £8m.

Lucas Torreira is another player reportedly due for a medical, as he looks set to join Turkish side Galatasaray.

Following Nuno Tavares' loan to Ligue 1 side Marseille last week, Folarin Balogun is set to join other French side Stade de Reims on loan.

Hector Bellerin is also likely to leave the Emirates, as he seeks a solution which will allow him to join Real Betis.

Alex Runarsson is another likely departure this summer, with Simon Collings of Evening Standard reporting loan interest from Turkey in the goalkeeper.

Arsenal fans will hope imminent departures will allow space for an incoming, with links to Youri Tielemans going nowhere.

Pablo Mari arrived at Arsenal in January of 2020.

He was signed initially on loan from Flamengo but the move was made permanent in the summer.

Despite some decent patches of form, the defender never quite found himself at Arsenal.

In January of 2022, Mari joined Udinese on loan until the rest of the season and had a good period in Serie A.

Described by Gabriel Martinelli as a 'big brother', Mari will certainly be missed in the dressing room.

Arsenal will hope the defender's move goes through smoothly, as they look to further clear the decks this summer.
