Arsenal youngster Miguel Azeez is in talks with Girona over a loan switch to the La Liga outfit, according to journalist Chris Wheatley.

The Hale End prospect has attracted the interest of the ‘Gironistes’, keen to strengthen their squad following last season’s promotion to the Spanish top flight.

Azeez has been involved in pre-season training with the Arsenal first team.

However is thought to have been left behind in London ahead of the club’s upcoming US Tour, via Germany.

Of Spanish descent himself, the England under-20 international now finds himself associated with a move to Girona..

The La Liga side are keen to take the midfielder on a one-year-loan.

At 19 years of age, Azeez has just one first-team appearance to his name for the Gunners thus far.

That coming against Dundalk in a Europa League group stage clash.

The midfielder has since been loaned out to Sky Bet League One side Portsmouth.

However, he struggled and made just six appearances for the Fratton Park outfit before being recalled.

According to the Sun, Azeez, alongside Charlie Patino and Omari Hutchinson, was being bookmarked for first-team action by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta ahead of the new season.

Following Europa League qualification, the expectation was that Azeez, among others, would get their fair share of game time in the opening fixtures of the competition.

However after the renewal of Mohamed Elneny, as well as the ongoing pursuit of further midfield recruits, the engine room at Arsenal is left relatively bloated.

It is unlikely the youngster will get the game-time he needs should he stay.

Depending on the negotiations laid out by Girona, Arsenal may find that there are greater guarantees of first-team football awaiting the prospect at the La Liga side.

According to Sky Sports, Girona weren’t alone in their hunt for Azeez’s services, with others in the division rivalling the newly-promoted side for his signature.

Wheatley, however, maintains that Girona are in pole position to get the deal concluded as they lead the way in negotiations with Arsenal and the coveted young star.

Azeez is one of a number of young players likely to leave on loan this summer.
