Armando Broja has 'huge chance' at Chelsea despite injury setbacks, says Thomas Tuchel

Albanian striker Armando Broja could have an opportunity to impress for Chelsea despite his injury setback.

Albanian striker Armando Broja has a massive opportunity at Chelsea, says head coach Thomas Tuchel.

This summer the Blues have seen Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner depart from Stamford Bridge, with both attackers returning to former clubs.

As a result Chelsea have been left with a limited number of options to choose from up top.

In terms of senior strikers that Tuchel has at his disposal, the leading option is German forward Kai Havertz, but he has failed to score in the opening two games.

New summer signing Raheem Sterling has also drifted into that position at times, but it is not a natural fit for him.

This has left the Blues in a tricky spot, but it could benefit 20-year-old Broja.

Other options might be being monitored, but the lack of time left to make a move this summer could be encouraging for the man who spent last season on loan at Southampton.

He tallied up six goals as he broke through in the Premier League and got the attention of multiple clubs.

Tuchel has admitted what a big fan he is of the powerful forward and it is looking likely he will not be leaving Stamford Bridge.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of Chelsea's game against Leeds United this Sunday, the head coach was asked about Broja's role.

He said: "We know enough about him but it's one thing to perform on loan and another to perform with a club like Chelsea, This is the next step.

"While he is doing the next steps, he was injured in pre-season and is injured again.

"This does not help his own ambitions and does not help us, of course, in having a clear view on what he can give us but given the size of the squad at the moment, it is a huge chance for Armando to have an impact at Chelsea."

He continued: "I understand this is his clear ambition, his clear goal to make his step here, It's on him.

"He gets full support, he has our trust and full support. Here we go.

"Unfortunately now he is injured again in such a short period of time and held back for this reason."

While Broja could be a good option, Chelsea have been monitoring other targets.

Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with a move with the Blues looking to agree terms with Barcelona.

The west London side have also had two bids for 21-year-old Anthony Gordon rejected.

Frank Lampard is hopeful of keeping the youngster, but is aware Chelsea could prize him away this summer.
