Leandro Trossard admits potential interest in Chelsea transfer following Graham Potter appointment

Leandro Trossard admits potential interest in Chelsea transfer following Graham Potter appointment

Trossard joined Brighton in the same summer as Potter.

Brighton and Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard has revealed he would want to join Chelsea if the Blues made an offer for him.

The Belgian international joined the Seagulls in 2019, the same summer that Graham Potter was appointed as head coach down on the south coast.

However, the latter has now made the switch to Stamford Bridge to be the new head coach at Chelsea, having spent three full seasons at Brighton.

The fellow Premier League outfit have now brought in Roberto De Zerbi as his replacement.

Trossard has been one of Brighton’s best players in recent seasons, having amassed 33 goal contributions in 110 games since he signed.

However, should the opportunity be presented to him, the 27-year-old could be interested in a move to west London, which would see him reunite with Potter.

When speaking to Het Niuewsblad, Trossard commented on his side’s start to the season, with the Seagulls currently sitting fourth in the Premier League table.

“I feel very good,” he told the Belgian publication.

“We had a super good start with Brighton. I have evolved tremendously. I now know how Premier League works.

“I’ve grown tremendously in that. Confidence, mentally, physically, … I have become better."

He also spoke on the departure of Potter and addressed the speculation around his name, but hinted he could be interested in a move to Chelsea.

“I have mastered the tricks now. Our coach did leave for Chelsea now but speculations about me following him make no sense.

“If the opportunity arises, I want to go. But I want to play and not sit on the bench.”

Throughout the last few months, there have been a number of changes made at Chelsea, both on and off the pitch.

Club officials such as Bruce Buck, Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech all departed at the beginning of the summer, signalling some changes at the top of the club.

The Blues were the biggest spenders in the Premier League come the end of the transfer window, welcoming the likes of Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Stamford Bridge.

One of the biggest changes was the sacking of Thomas Tuchel as head coach the morning after their 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, who had spent 19 months as boss before being replaced by Potter.

Chelsea are also still continuing their search for a sporting director after approaches for Michael Edwards and Christoph Freund were unsuccessful, with Sevilla’s Monchi now emerging as a potential name for the role.
