Gvardiol, Rice, Bellingham, Nkunku: Latest Chelsea transfer news as Todd Boehly eyes further spending

It's set to be a busy winter and summer window for Chelsea next year.

Chelsea are already planning their moves for the January and summer transfer windows next summer with a whole host of targets being looked at, according to reports.

Todd Boehly backed former Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel with over £250 million worth of signings in the summer, but the German didn’t last much longer when the window shut as he was relieved of his duties in early September and replaced by Graham Potter.

Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Denis Zakaria were all signed, as well as Gabriel Slonina and Carney Chukwuemeka,

It’s been an average start to the season for Chelsea, currently sitting in fifth place in the Premier League, and the new owners are continuing the work behind the scenes to improve and bolster the squad.

Big names have already been linked ahead of the World Cup and winter transfer window, with big-money set to be spent if reports are anything to go by.

Here is the latest on quartet Josko Gvardiol, Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham and Christopher Nkunku, as reported by Matt Law of The Telegraph.

Josko Gvardiol

Chelsea are ready to land the 20-year-old defender after holding advanced talks with RB Leipzig.

Gvardiol was wanted by Chelsea in the summer over a €90 million deal but Leipzig didn’t want to let the Croatia international leave.

He is claimed to have a £43.6 million release clause after signing a new deal until 2027 last month.

Gvardiol felt staying at Leipzig in the summer was the right move, admitting: “Honestly, I’m happy in Leipzig. “It’s only my second year and I still have a lot to learn and work on myself.”

Declan Rice

Chelsea have had a long-standing interest in their former academy star. Former bosses Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel were admirers, and the club’s interest remains.

Rice is now West Ham’s club captain and the England international is still ‘on the radar’ ahead of next summer when Chelsea look to add to their midfield.

Jude Bellingham

Real Madrid and Liverpool have already started to make their move for Bellingham and are leading the race for the 19-year-old.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is valued at around £130 million and Chelsea are trying to put themselves in the race to give themselves a chance of landing him next summer.

Whether they will be able to pull off a transfer like this remains to be seen, but Boehly and Co aren’t going to go down without a fight.

Christopher Nkunku

The 24-year-old signed a new deal until 2026 in June which included a €60 million release clause that will become active next summer.

Leipzig made the move to protect his value and they did so just in time after Nkunku underwent a medical that was overseen by Chelsea towards the end of the transfer window.

Now he has agreed a pre-contract which is set to see the France international make the switch to Stamford Bridge next summer for a fee which would be in excess of his release clause value.
