Gabriel Slonina reveals Christian Pulisic text ahead of Chelsea move

Gabriel Slonina reveals Christian Pulisic text ahead of Chelsea move

Incoming Chelsea goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina has revealed that he spoke to Christian Pulisic ahead of his move from Chicago Fire.

Incoming Chelsea goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina has revealed that he spoke to Christian Pulisic ahead of his move from MLS side Chicago Fire.

The youngster agreed a move to Chelsea in the summer but will remain at Chicago Fire until January.

He has been impressive with his performances so far in the MLS.

The time is ticking down until the shot-stopper will arrive at Stamford Bridge.

And now the American has revealed that members of the Chelsea squad have already welcomed him to Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to the MLS, Slonina said: "I did give him (Christian Pulisic) a message when I was in Chelsea, signing and everything.

"He said he's super excited for me to be with the club and hopefully we can see the field together."

The goalkeeper continued to admit that he was impressed by meetings he had with the new Chelsea owners, with them outlining a path for him to progress into the first team.

"The path that they showed me and presented me while I was talking to them was something I really liked," he continued.

"They really focused on a player's development and making sure they're seeing the right things, playing games and getting minutes.

"Because obviously for a young goalkeeper, that's super important.

"You can train a lot, but you still have to see those game minutes and everything. I was drawn to the fans, to the location of where it's at.

"And it's Chelsea, so it was a no-brainer."

It remains to be seen as to whether Slonina will go straight into the first team after the 2022 World Cup or whether he will depart on loan.

Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy are currently fighting for the number one spot at Stamford Bridge and it is unlikely that a young goalkeeper will arrive to compete with these two.

Pulisic's future has also been in doubt in recent transfer windows after a lack of game time but he will remain a Chelsea player until January, when Slonina arrives.

It is unclear as to whether the USMNT star will look for a move in the next transfer window as he looks to impress under Graham Potter.
