West Ham resume Emerson Palmieri talks as transfer fee close to being agreed with Chelsea

West Ham resume Emerson Palmieri talks as transfer fee close to being agreed with Chelsea

West Ham have resumed talks with Emerson Palmieri as a transfer fee is close to being agreed with Chelsea, according to reports.

West Ham have resumed talks with Emerson Palmieri as a transfer fee is close to being agreed with Chelsea, according to reports.

The Italian was a target for the Hammers this summer as they look to reinforce their left-back position, but talks broke down regarding personal terms earlier this week.

He was thought to be surplus to requirements for Thomas Tuchel, having signed Marc Cucurella on a £63 million deal from Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this window.

Marcos Alonso also remains at the club and is awaiting the confirmation of his move to Barcelona, with the La Liga side sorting out their finances before confirming the deal.

Ben Chilwell remains the other option at left wing-back, but recovering from a long-term injury means that the England international may take his time to get back to his best.

Despite this, Emerson will most likely find his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer, with West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Atalanta, Napoli and Lazio all showing interest in the Italy international.

Spending last season on loan at Ligue 1 side Lyon, Emerson impressed and Tuchel wished to call him back in January to provide competition to Alonso when Chilwell suffered his injury.

The French side did not let him depart, and perhaps this has cost Emerson his future at Chelsea, with Cucurella and Chilwell the preferred options this season.

As reported by Sky Sports, talks have resumed between West Ham and Chelsea over the signing of Emerson.

There is still a way to go in the deal but the fee is close to being finalised, with discussions also resuming with the player’s representatives.

There is hope that a compromise can be reached with the player as David Moyes hopes to see him join his squad in London.

The Hammers looked for alternative options but are once again working to sign Emerson.

This report was supported by The Evening Standard, who stated that the move is ‘back on’.

A £13 million bid was submitted earlier this week before personal terms broke down, with there yet to be an agreement on either a transfer fee or wages yet.

This is thought to be close, with the Blues willing to accept a fee of £15 million for their wing-back.

The 28-year-old is thought to be asking for a pay increase from the £75,000-per-week that he is earning at Chelsea, looking for a figure close to £95,000-a-week.

It remains to be seen as to whether a compromise can be reached as Chelsea look to offload their left-back this summer.

The Blues are looking to bolster their squad before the end of the transfer window, also, with the likes of Wesley Fofana, Anthony Gordon and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang linked.
