An update has been provided regarding Ousmane Dembele’s future, with the Barcelona star heavily linked with a move to Chelsea.
The 25-year-old is set to depart the Camp Nou upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June.
A reunion with former boss Thomas Tuchel appears to be edging ever closer, with the pair previously working together during their time at Borussia Dortmund.
Dembele’s season under the now-Chelsea boss Tuchel is widely regarded as the best of his career, with the German believing that he can help him reach new heights if he joins him at Stamford Bridge.
The most recent reports state that ‘everything seems to indicate’ that Dembele will become a Chelsea player in the summer, signing on a free transfer after a mixed spell at Barcelona.
The French international finished the season as Barcelona’s top playmaker, registering 13 assists in all competitions across the span of 32 matches.
Speaking during the January transfer window on Chelsea-linked Dembele, Tuchel admitted: “He is a very good player when he is in his top level. I am very fortunate to have trained him in my time at Dortmund.
“It was only one year, it should have been longer. I needed to leave and he decided to leave."
With the Chelsea head coach clearly a fan of Dembele, it looks like he could become a Blues player this summer.
The latest update has been provided by football.london, who report that Dembele is waiting until after his holiday to make a decision over his future.
The 25-year-old has also been in dialogue with Tuchel, speaking about a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The strong relationship between the pair could see Chelsea beat competition from Paris Saint-Germain to secure the signing of Dembele this summer.
Tuchel is looking to bolster his attacking options this summer, with Romelu Lukaku set to return to Inter Milan on loan.
Furthermore, Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for attacking trio Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech as Dembele could come in as a natural right wing option for Tuchel’s squad.
Chelsea appear to be in the ascendancy for Dembele at this moment in time, but there would be no surprise if his future is not announced before his Barcelona contract expires at the end of the month
