Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is ‘convinced’ that he can get the best out of Ousmane Dembele if the Blues sign the Barcelona winger this summer.
The pair had a strong relationship during the season that they spent together at Borussia Dortmund back in 2016/17.
According to the Daily Mail, Tuchel believes that he can once again get the best out of Dembele if he is to sign him at Chelsea this summer.
Recent reports have stated that Barcelona are getting frustrated with Dembele after a lack of dialogue from his camp ahead of his contract expiry on June 30.
Chelsea are also ‘growing in confidence’ of sealing a potential transfer for the winger as Tuchel looks to rebuild his squad in the hope of challenging Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title next season.
The 25-year-old’s most impressive season came under Tuchel at Dortmund, scoring 10 goals and registering 21 assists in 49 games in Germany.
However, the pair parted ways as Tuchel left the German side at the end of the season and Dembele sealed a club-record transfer to Barcelona.
“He is a very good player when he is in his top level," Tuchel said of Dembele when Chelsea were linked with his signing back in January.
"I am very fortunate to have trained him in my time at Dortmund. It was only one year, it should have been longer. I needed to leave and he decided to leave."
Now, the Mail reports that Tuchel is convinced he can once again get the best out of the Frenchman if they are reunited at Stamford Bridge this summer.
However ‘not everyone at Chelsea’ is convinced by the signing, the report continues to state.
The fact that Dembele is ending things on ‘very amicable terms’ with Barcelona has caused some concerns for Chelsea.
It remains to be seen as to whether Tuchel can convince the new owners at the club to sanction a deal for Dembele, perhaps pointing to their last season together when Dembele enjoyed the best season of his career to date.
The Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital consortium are prepared to make ‘bold signings’ in the summer for Chelsea as they look to close the gap in the Premier League.
Christopher Nkunku has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, another player with history working under Tuchel, this time at Paris Saint-Germain.
It remains to be seen as to whether the Blues will back their head coach in the summer as he looks to rebuild his squad.
