AC Milan 0-2 Chelsea: Blues dominate at the San Siro thanks to Jorginho and Aubameyang goals

Chelsea faced Serie A Champions AC Milan at the San Siro in the Champions League.

Chelsea were able to secure their second Champions League win of the season thanks to a solid 2-0 victory away at AC Milan.

Jorginho gave the Blues the lead from the spot following Fikayo Tomori's red card and foul on Mason Mount.

Soon after, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted his third goal for the club, with the visitors proving to be highly impressive in their first trip to the San Siro since 2010.

Such a result has boosted Chelsea's chances of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages, with Graham Potter's side now having seven points to their name.

It was a crucial win for the west London outfit, who have now come from the bottom of Group E to the top following the result between Dinamo Zagreb and FC Salzburg.

Chelsea are also still unbeaten under Potter, and the triumph in Milan was their fourth consecutive win in all competitions.

Potter made two changes to the side who beat Milan in the reverse fixture last week, with Jorginho coming in for Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah taking the place of the injured Wesley Fofana.

Much of the early possession was in the hands of the Blues, who were met with a hostile reception at the San Siro.

Early on, it was clear to see that the hosts would put in a much improved performance against the west London side compared to their efforts last Wednesday.

A few free-kicks were given in favour to Milan in the opening 15 minutes, with both sides looking for the first real chance on goal.

Chelsea's defence remained strong and were quick to break down any attempts from their hosts, with Reece James coming up against Rafael Leao once again.

Soon, the Blues were awarded a penalty, with Tomori being sent off for his challenge on Mason Mount.

After a few moments of protest from the Milan players over the decision, Jorginho soon stepped up and converted to make it 1-0 to Chelsea.

Milan soon had a big chance to equalise through former Blue Olivier Giroud, but he put his header wide of the post from inside the area.

Raheem Sterling was the third player to be booked inside the opening half an hour, with tensions between the two sides rising after the goal.

However, Chelsea doubled their lead against the Italian giants in the 33rd minute.

Mount sent a teasing through ball into the area with Sterling the intended target, but he was able to leave it for Aubameyang, who proceeded to fire in at the near post.

Chelsea were looking to make the most of the extra man, with their attacking players having a lot of space to run in going forward.

Mount was keen to get onto the scoresheet himself and was close to doing so, but Ciprian Tatarusanu did well to get down low and tip his shot wide of goal.

In the final stages of the first half Potter's side remained comfortable on the ball, and continued to go forward at every opportunity.

Half-time soon came, with the visitors in control of the tie.

At the start of the second half, Conor Gallagher came on to replace Mount as Potter look to seal the result away from home.

Ben Chilwell darted forwards in the opening stages, but his run into the box was flagged for offside.

Gallagher was played through into the area just moments later, but he was unable to find the target from a tight angle.

Aubameyang came close to netting a second but he was denied from close range by the Milan goalkeeper after Mateo Kovacic's audacious volley on goal.

James went down injured following his challenge on an opposition player, but he was soon back onto the pitch.

Milan had a glorious chance to pull one back just after the hour mark, but Sergino Dest sent his effort high and wide of the goal.

Despite his efforts to continue play after going down, James had to come off the pitch following his injury and he was replaced by Cesar Azpilicueta, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek coming on for Sterling.

As the game progressed the hosts continued to try and find an opening in the Chelsea defence, but the visitors took advantage of the extra man.

Trevoh Chalobah was nearly caught out in his own half as Leao raced through towards goal, but Kalidou Koulibaly was on hand to make a vital tackle to stop Milan from progressing.

Kai Havertz came on for the final stages of the match in place of goalscorer Aubameyang.

As the clock ticked towards the end, Chilwell was keen to try and get himself onto the scoresheet, but his effort went wide of the post.

He was soon replaced by Marc Cucurella as the Blues' final substitution, with Potter and his side closing in on victory.

Gallagher had a great chance once again to find the back of the net, but he was flagged for offside in stoppage time.

However, full-time soon came and Chelsea sealed a huge win on the road as they edge closer to the last 16 of the Champions League.
