Wrestling world champion in hot water after throwing tequila at a young child, the kid was in tears

It was a main event 60-minute Iron Man match that will go down as a classic but there was one moment in particular that had fans talking.

All Elite Wrestling world champion MJF has landed himself in hot water after throwing tequila at a child midway through a title defence.

MJF, otherwise known as Maxwell Jacob Friedman, was defending his AEW world championship against Bryan Danielson, formerly Daniel Bryan in WWE, at AEW Revolution.

It was a main event 60-minute Iron Man match that will go down as a classic bout, but there was one moment in particular that had fans talking more than anything.

Midway through the matchup MJF, who plays a traditional heel, or bad guy, went into the crowd before grabbing a drink out of a woman’s hand and throwing the liquid directly in the face of a young child.

The crowd immediately started booing, exactly the reaction the 26-year-old was after, however, it later came to light that the incident was worse than first thought.

Sometimes at wrestling events, the promotions will put people known as ‘plants’ in the crowd to interact with wrestlers in moments such as this.

However, Wrestling Observer Radio confirmed that the young boy, named Titus, was not a ‘plant’ and the drink was in fact tequila.

Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer of WOR reported that the boy’s mother was furious and that the drink had burnt Titus’ eyes as he was visibly upset.

Some fans weren’t happy either with the act.

One tweeted: “That was unacceptable.”

Another said: “If he or anyone did this to one of my kids .. wrestler or not .. they wouldn’t be throwing anything at anyone again.”

A third added: “This is terrible is this is not part of the show.”

However, others thought it fit the ‘despicable’ character of MJF perfectly.

One said: “At first I was shocked at the cruelty, but then again it perfectly matches his character. A few minutes after this happened the kid was dry, smiley & cheering.”

A second commented: “The greatest heel in decades.”

A third wrote: “That kid has a story to tell forever. People crying about this are some babies.”

AEW apologised to the kid and his mother following the incident as he was given some free merchandise and was taken backstage to meet some of his favourite wrestlers.

When asked about the incident after the event, MJF replied that he thought ‘the kid looked thirsty’.

MJF retained his title against Bryan Danielson after the one-hour match went into overtime at 3-3.

The champ hit the challenger with an oxygen tank before making him tap out to walk out of Revolution still champion.
