Wrestling fans have urged Jeff Hardy to retire after footage emerged from his latest wrestling match.

The former WWE champion recently returned to All Elite Wrestling after a 10-month absence following his arrest for a DUI offence.

He returned at the beginning of April and again joined forces with his brother Matt Hardy.

He teamed with Matt, and AEW wrestler Hook to take on Ethan Page and The Gunns on the Double or Nothing pre-show in a six-man tag match.

At one point during the match, Hardy went to go for his signature Whisper in the Wind where he would fly off the top rope onto Austin Gunn.

However, it looked as though the move didn’t go to plan at all as he buckled on the ropes and fell awkwardly.

The incident had fans seriously concerned and went as far as asking for the wrestling legend to hang up his boots.

One fan wrote: “I’m sorry Jeff, I love you but it’s time to hang it up.”

Another said: “This is tough to watch.”

A third commented: “My guy Jeff Hardy going out sad.”

A fourth added: “Jeff Hardy shouldn’t be wrestling anymore.”

However, others have noted that it may have been in part of the plan all along and that Jeff had in fact fooled everyone into thinking he was hurt.

Just moments before the move it does look as though the high-flyer tweaked his knee as he was attempting a Twist of Fate.

And then he further sold the injured knee when going for the high-impact move.

One fan explained: “This is actually amazing selling by Jeff Hardy, he literally has everyone fooled. He sold his left ankle and that ankle was the reason he slipped trying to do a move on the top rope. This man still got it.”

Another said: “It’s called selling an injury.”

A third agreed: “He did that intentionally.”

Hardy did tease his retirement during an episode of AEW Dynamite recently.

He said: “I think the smartest thing for me to do is retire from screwing up. I'm here in AEW to end my career on an extremely high note instead of a depressing low. I love each and every one of you. We'll see and time will tell. The future's waiting for us to prevail.”
