Erik ten Hag issues Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof injury update ahead of Leicester City clash

Erik ten Hag issues Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof injury update ahead of Leicester City clash

Erik ten Hag has revealed the fitness status of both Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof as Manchester United take on Leicester City.

Erik ten Hag has spoken to the press ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League fixture away to Leicester City.

This fixture comes after back to back wins against Liverpool and Southampton respectively, after a poor start to the season saw Manchester United lose their opening two fixtures against Brighton and Brentford.

Erik ten Hag will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce against a Leicester City team who currently sit bottom of the table and yet to win a game this season.

The fixture could see a return to the starting XI for Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been on the bench for the last two games.

Although United are set to announce both the signings of Martin Dubravka on loan and Antony from Ajax, Thursday’s match comes too early for either player to make their debuts.

Two players who did not feature for United against Southampton were Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof, who were both absent due to injury

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on the status of both players, Ten Hag said: “Victor Lindelof is training with the team.

“We will see today how far he is because he was out for three weeks. Anthony Martial is not available."

Anthony Martial has only played 45 minutes for United in the Premier League so far this season after impressing during the club’s pre-season tour.

Those 45 minutes came in the second half against Liverpool, where he was instrumental in the club’s second goal of the game.

It was the Frenchman who gained control of the ball around the half-way line and fed Marcus Rashford through to put the Red Devils 2-0 up at Old Trafford in a victory that finished 2-1, making Rashford’s finish the decisive goal.

Victor Lindelof has been side-lined with injury for three weeks and although is training with the squad, is unlikely to feature for United soon.

This is due to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez’s brilliant partnership in the last two fixtures that has kept captain Harry Maguire out of the squad.

One who will not be available for selection against Leicester City but may make his debut on the weekend is new man Antony.

Erik ten Hag said he “hopes” Antony will be available to play Arsenal on Sunday.

Manchester United are set to announce the completion of Antony’s signing in the coming days once his visa and work permit have been processed.

The Red Devils are also due to announce the loan signing of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from Newcastle for a £5 million loan fee plus an option to buy that transforms into an obligation to buy depending on appearances.
