Player ratings: Sheriff Tiraspol 0-2 Manchester United (Europa League)

Player ratings: Sheriff Tiraspol 0-2 Manchester United (Europa League)

How the Manchester United players played as Erik ten Hag's men beat Sheriff Tiraspol 2-0 in the Europa League.

Manchester United defeated Sheriff Tiraspol 2-0 in the Europa League to move to 2nd in Group E.

Here is how UtdDistrict rated the Reds’ performance against Sheriff:

David de Gea – 6.5/10

Didn’t really have a lot to do.

Diogo Dalot - 8/10

Very strong performance from the Portuguese full back, won the penalty for United and was unlucky not to get an assist after a good cutback for Bruno Fernandes in the box.

Raphaël Varane – 8/10

Another imperious performance from him, his impact on the side’s defence since returning from injury cannot be spoken about more.

Raphael Varane. (Man Utd)

Lisandro Martínez - 8/10

Dictates play from centre-half in a way few other footballers can, a true joy to watch on the ball. His tenacity out of possession more than makes up for his small stature. Him & Varane are an excellent partnership.

Tyrell Malacia – 7/10

Was not given an easy time by his opposition winger, but Malacia handled it well as he has done most tests so far. Showcased his versatility with a move to right back when Diogo Dalot made way for Luke Shaw.

Scott McTominay – 7/10

Solid performance again from McTominay, he looks much improved under Ten Hag. A far smarter defender now than ever before. Subbed at half time for Casemiro.

Christian Eriksen - 9/10

Manchester United’s signing of the summer. Just a wonderful, wonderful playmaker. Got an assist for Sancho with an excellent pass and just ran the show for United.

Man United

Jadon Sancho - 8.5/10

Scored a remarkably well-taken goal on his left foot, and was very unlucky to not score another with a shot cleared off the line. Responded really well to Gareth Southgate’s (awful) decision to not call him up for England.

Bruno Fernandes - 7.5/10

Played the pass for Dalot who won the penalty and had some other very good moments in the game, but should have scored. Once again led the side well, has responded strongly to being given the armband in recent games by Ten Hag.

Antony - 7/10

Was unlucky not to get an assist for Sancho when the Englishman’s shot was cleared off the line. Once again showcased some nice skill, and his tenacity is exemplary.

Cristiano Ronaldo - 7/10

Was having quite a poor all-round performance, but then finally got his first goal of the season from the penalty spot. You can never keep him down for too long. Made some nice runs in behind at times, but needs to drop deep less.

Substitutes

Casemiro - 7/10

Subbed on at half-time and his performance was promising, showing signs of getting up to full speed. Mopped up very well defensively and picked out some impressive forward passes. Once he is fully ready he will take this team up a level.

Luke Shaw - 6.5/10

Came on after a few weeks out, looking much slimmer than he did previously. Played with greater intensity, if he can adjust to Ten Hag’s demands it will be a huge boost for United.

Anthony Elanga - N/A

Came on with around 10 minutes left and brought his usual energy.

Harry Maguire - N/A

Brought on with just a couple of minutes left to play.

Alejandro Garnacho - N/A

Didn’t have enough time to make any real impact.
