Manchester United turn to PSV's Cody Gakpo after ending interest in Marko Arnautovic

Manchester United turn to PSV's Cody Gakpo after ending interest in Marko Arnautovic

Manchester United have adjusted their transfer targets under Erik ten Hag to Cody Gakpo after ending Marko Arnautovic interest.

Manchester United’s last-minute hunt for attacking reinforcements have thrown up a number of unsuspecting names as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his attack.

After a 2-1 loss in the Premier League to Brighton & Hove Albion proved a lack of depth in attack, the Dutchman is looking to the transfer market to boost his options.

Due to Cristiano Ronaldo not being match fit and an injury to Anthony Martial, Ten Hag had to start new signing Christian Eriksen up front, to the surprise of many.

Although Ronaldo came on to play in the second half, the goal-chasing was unsuccessful as only one goal thanks to a finish in the wrong end from Alexis Mac Allister saw the side finish a goal behind.

Surrounding the game was talk of former West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic being a ‘cut price’ option in the market, with Ten Hag keen on the striker.

Manchester United had a bid of around £7 million rejected by Bologna, and were preparing a fresh bid.

This has now however been ‘abandoned’, with Manchester United supporters voicing back-lash at the potential signing.

The striker has been involved in multiple racial scandals in the past, with many fans pointing out that it would be against the club’s zero-tolerance policy on racism to sign such a player.

According to Charlotte Duncker of The Times, Manchester United have turned their attention to PSV forward Cody Gakpo.

A right-footed player who can play across the front three. Gakpo scored 21 goals in last season’s campaign.

Also scoring three goals in as many games so far under Ruud van Nistelrooy, Gakpo is only 23 years old and is one of the most exciting players in the Netherlands.

With Manchester United in need of goals, the winger is said to be keen on a move to Erik ten Hag’s new club.

Gakpo isn’t the only player to emerge on the radar of Manchester United, with Alvaro Morata being a name who has cropped up since the Brighton defeat.

The club are also looking at potentially signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio, with a fee of £57.5 million being considered.

A fee has been reportedly agreed between Juventus and the Red Devils for midfielder Adrien Rabiot, with Richard Arnold set to meet with his mother and agent Veronique to agree personal terms.
