Alex Telles Set To Embark On A One Year Loan To Spain After Tyrell Malacia Signing

Alex Telles Set To Embark On A One Year Loan To Spain After Tyrell Malacia Signing

Alex Telles is heading off from Manchester United to Sevilla for a season, with the club currently stacked with four first-team left-backs.

Alex Telles will sign for Spanish side Sevilla on a one-year loan deal from Manchester United, according to the latest reports.

This is according to several reports from both the BBC and Fabrizio Romano.

Alex Telles signed for Manchester United back in October 2020 in a move that cost just shy of £15 million.

Telles has played 50 matches so far for United in the two seasons since he joined, scoring one goal and providing eight assists for the club so far.

Telles’ start to his Manchester United career was a strange one, with the player coming in with high expectations after some wonderful performances for Porto in both Portugal and the Champions League.

The season before he joined, in 2019/20, he scored 13 goals for Porto alongside 12 assists – numbers which were viewed as pretty unique for a player in his position.

Joining in October due to the shift in the English transfer window, which itself was unique as COVID pushed the end of the Premier League season to July and the Europa League and Champions League competitions to August, he had to integrate and get himself fit while the squad was already into their season.

Then, coupled with this, he then tested positive for COVID himself, further delaying his debut.

Telles’ debut eventually came in the form of a substitute appearance away to PSG, where the Brazilian was substituted on as a left-winger.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he formed a good partnership with Luke Shaw when the side played with five defenders, with the Englishman slotting in at left centre-back and the Brazilian operating a wing-back role.

However, that season saw Luke Shaw have one of his best at left-back, and accumulated in him starting as England’s first choice left back and scoring for the side during the EURO 2020 final, held in summer 2021.

Telles was one who suffered as part of Manchester United’s dismal 2021/22 campaign, with several below-par performances resulting in many fans calling for his sale.

With the signing of Tyrell Malacia and the great performances of the young Dutch left-back, it is no surprise to see Telles being moved on, for the season at least.

The club are also looking to sell Brandon Williams, with both of these players behind Shaw and Malacia in Erik ten Hag’s pecking order for the position.

These two are part of up to seven United defenders who could leave the club this summer, with Eric Bailly generating interest from abroad after being resigned to leaving in search of more minutes.

After pre-season has finished, Erik ten Hag will have a lot to think about with regards to who starts in the club’s first Premier League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion on 7 August.

It has already been reported that Anthony Martial will be rewarded with a start on Sunday after his great performances in pre-season, with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford more than likely to line up alongside him.
