Manchester United have announced the signing of Lisandro Martinez on a contract until June 2027, with the option to extend for a further year.

After winning the battle for the Argentine against Premier League opposition Arsenal, United have finally completed the transfer.

An official deal was agreed on 17 July, whilst United were on tour, the completion was pending a successful work visa application, medical and confirmation of player terms.

The defender will strengthen United's defensive line which struggled last term, and will bring a fierce nature mixed with quality which Ten Hag has previously detailed.

Speaking on joining the club, Martinez said: "It’s an honour to join this great football club.

"I’ve worked so hard to get to this moment and, now that I’m here, I’m going to push myself even further.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be part of successful teams in my career and that’s what I want to continue at Manchester United.

"There will be a lot of work to get to that moment, but I firmly believe that, under this manager and coaches, and together with my new team-mates, we can do it.

“I want to thank Ajax and their fans for all the support they gave me.

"I had an unbelievable time there but feel the moment is right to test myself in another environment. Now I am at the perfect club to do this.”

Meanwhile, Football Director John Murtough has also shared his delight at the summer signing.

The new signing could play in United's new mid-week behind-closed-doors friendly game.

His signing followed the unveiling of Christian Eriksen on Tuesday, who joined the club on a free transfer.

They will be looking to get up to speed ahead of United's first Premier League fixture against Brighton on 7 August.
