Form guide: Southampton vs Manchester United (Premier League)

Form guide: Southampton vs Manchester United (Premier League)

A look at the form of Manchester United and Southampton ahead of Saturday’s Premier League tie at St Mary’s.

Manchester United take on Southampton this Saturday, as they look to pick up their first away win since February.

The Red Devils’ record on the road has been less than impressive in recent months, with their last win away coming against Leeds United.

United finally picked up their first win of the season on Monday night against Liverpool, and Southampton will be seen as a good opportunity for the side to build more momentum.

Here, UtdDistrict preview the form of both teams coming into Saturday’s early kick off:

United kicked off their Premier League season - and Ten Hag’s reign as United manager - with an uninspiring 2-1 defeat to Brighton

A chance to get back on track away to Brentford the following weekend ended in one of the most embarrassing defeats in the club’s history. United were 4-0 down within 35 minutes.

But United bounced back nine days later against Liverpool, with a much-improved performance in which Ten Hag’s men showcased much greater fight than the previous two weeks.

Erik ten Hag forcing his players in for an intense running session the day after the Brentford loss - during a heatwave - clearly sent a message to his players.

The side should be confident going into the Southampton game, with a win potentially going a long way for them.

Southampton have won, drawn and lost one game each this season, sitting 11th in the Premier League table on four points.

They opened the season with a 4-1 loss away to Tottenham Hotspur, despite going 1-0 up, in a game where they were thoroughly dominated.

They returned home and turned around a 2-0 deficit to Jesse March’s impressive-looking Leeds side, clawing back a 2-2 draw. New signings Joe Aribo and Sékou Mara scored and assisted respectively.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men picked up their first win of the season, again turning around a deficit, this time coming from 1-0 down at the King Power Stadium to win 2-1.

That was followed by a Carabao Cup victory against Cambridge, winning by a 3-0 scoreline as Che Adams bagged himself a brace.

So far in the season, Southampton seem to be thriving as underdogs chasing a game. United will be expected to be on top Saturday, so must watch out in transitions.
