Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong's reaction when asked about his rumoured move to Manchester United was certainly an interesting one.

The 25-year-old midfielder is said to be Erik ten Hag's main target this transfer window. He is currently on international duty with the Netherlands.

After Louis van Gaal's side drew 2-2 with Poland on Saturday evening, De Jong was on media duty and was asked about his rumoured move to United.

"Are you leaving the Catalan beaches for the cold of Manchester?" The reporter asked.

De Jong started with a laugh, before saying: No... I think... I can't say anything."

His awkward response towards the topic is no surprise considering the reports that came out this week about how the midfielder has been advised to not speak on the situation until an agreement between United and Barcelona has been made.

Frenkie de Jong could be Erik ten Hag's first Manchester United signing.

Further reports from Alex Crook of TalkSPORT suggests that the players seems like he will be a "definite arrival" to Old Trafford, alongside Ajax's Antony.

Frenkie de Jong played 32 La Liga games last season with Barca, and while his initial feeling was that he wanted to stay with the club, reports have said that he has been convinced by Ten Hag to be a key part of his United rebuild.

United's first bid of £51 million, plus £8.5m in add-ons, was rejected by Barcelona, but the clubs remain in contact to try and reach an agreement, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The Dutchman would be a key addition to Ten Hag's squad, that is light in midfield after recent departures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.

He suits the brand of football that the United manager will want to play, but should be accompanied by an additional midfield signing in order to get the best from him.

It has also been reported that Ten Hag wants the saga to end swiftly, with pre-season starting on the 27 June, he will want his man on the camp.

De Jong would be the 14th Dutchman to don the red shirt at Old Trafford if he was to make the move. One other was Robin van Persie, who scored some unbelievable goals for the club.
