Ajax Star's Brother Denies 'Fake News' About Manchester United Move

Ajax Star's Brother Denies 'Fake News' About Manchester United Move

The news that had been spreading around social media was confirmed fake by the 'agent'.

After an apparent interview quote from Antony's 'agent' was circulating around social media on Monday afternoon about his rumoured move to Manchester United, it was proven to be fake news.

The Dutch winger was one of the stars under Erik ten Hag in the Eredivisie last season, and the new-United manager has been reported to want the 22-year-old to join his rebuild at Old Trafford.

Recent reports have said that he is one of two "definite arrivals" at the English club this summer, alongside Frenkie de Jong.

He had 12 goals and 10 assists last season, and impressed during Ajax's stint in the Champions League.

The wide man scored goals against Borussia Dortmund and Sporting CP in the Netherlands, as well as getting two assists against the Portuguese side away from home.

A reported quote began to cirulate around Twitter, claiming that geglobo, a Brazilian outlet, had quotes from the apparent agent of Antony, Emerson Santos.

The quote that was later proved false read: "Manchester United is pushing very hard get get Antony in these hours. They're so determined and Antony wants this move to happen for his career."

Firstly, Lucas Sposito, a writer at Sport Witness, confirmed that these comments were not on the original website that was linked with the quotes.

Then, Fabrizio Romano came out and gave further clarity to the situation.

The Italian journalist explained that Santos is the brother of Antony, but not the agent. Romano then went onto reveal that Santos has denied the 'fake news' around these supposed comments that he made.

Romano did add the fact that United's interest in the Brazilian is genuine, and that there are internal discussions but no bid on the table as of yet.

If United are able to bring the winger to the club, it would likely be the second player who has previously worked under Ten Hag, with the likelihood of Frenkie de Jong joining the club seeming ever-more likely.

He would also be the third Brazilian to be apart of the squad, with Fred and Alex Telles the two from the South American country already.
