Tony Ferguson has called out Khabib Nurmagomedov for dropping out of their UFC 249 main event, claiming the Russian is 'scared' to face him and calling for the title to be stripped.

Earlier on Wednesday Khabib confirmed on Instagram that he is out of the April 18th event due to being grounded in Russia.

The Eagle had been in the US for his training camp before flying to Abu Dhabi and eventually returning to his homeland. Ferguson has issue with that decision, claiming the lightweight champion could have returned to America, and he also had a go at Conor McGregor.

"Khabib, I believe he already knew that he wasn't going to fight," El Cucuy told Ariel Helwani on ESPN, "He bailed out, man. He bailed out."

Speaking also about McGregor the former interim lightweight champion added, "I'm a hitman. Khabib and Conor running around with their tails between their legs like a f**king dog. I run with the dog's man, and these guys ain't dog. They're a bunch of p**sies. Khabib's a b*tch. I told him I was gonna mop the f***ing floor with his hat, the dude jammed out.

"Whether or not it's Khabib, whether or not it's Conor, I'm all for just whooping somebody's ass. I already beat the top five in the round-robin, and now they want me to reset and give me another top five? I don't f***ing think so. I'm the champion already."

There is just two and a half weeks left until UFC 249 and Dana White is yet to announce a location for the event and now has to find a new main event.

Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier have both offered to fight Ferguson on April 18th and it's believed that talks for a fight with the former have taken place.

It is now the fifth occasion that Ferguson and Khabib have been due to meet and because of one reason or another the two rivals are still yet to meet inside the octagon.

Will Ferguson vs Khabib ever take place?
