News has just broken that UFC 249 has been cancelled.

UFC president Dana White was determined to put on the event on April 18, even managing to secure Justin Gaethje as a swift replacement to face Tony Ferguson in the main event - in addition to a secret location said to be at an Indian casino in California.

However, with the powers that be at ESPN and Disney asking him to do so, White has now had to admit defeat due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, causing this event and many other upcoming shows to be postponed until further notice.

After the event was moved from its original location in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the plan was to host the Octagon action behind closed doors but to continue to give fight fans around their world their fix.

A strong card was assembled but the big event is now null and void until normality resumes.
