Justin Gaethje's manager has taken aim at Conor McGregor for wanting to fight his client next - explaining he missed his chance.

Gaethje defeated Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 on Saturday night to set up a huge lightweight title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov down the road.

But McGregor unleashed a huge Twitter rant on Monday which included him calling out 'The Highlight' - a fight Ali Abdelaziz thinks has come and gone.

Per ESPN's Brett Okamoto, he said: "He [McGregor] had his chance for that, and he picked Cowboy [Donald Cerrone, at UFC 246 in January]. He picked the easier fight. The two kings of the division are going to fight in Khabib and Justin. Conor can be the co-main event."

Despite what Abdelaziz says, Gaethje seems keen to fight McGregor and even dropped a hint that he'd be willing to fight the former 'Champ-champ' in his native Ireland.

"Khabib is the best in the world. I've been working since I was four for challenges like this." he said after defeating Tony Ferguson on Saturday.

"And I'm happy to represent the United States of America versus Dagestan or Russia's best.

"He's 28-0 and there's no other challenge I want right now. I want to fight him."

The American fighter went on to say that he'll then "go to Ireland and do what I got to do" in a callout to 'The Notorious'.

McGregor attacked his lightweight rivals in a string of tweets on Monday evening with some harsh words coming for Gaethje.

He began with: Justin, there is no danger in a man that hugs legs, we all know. Try and dance around what the real threat is here all you want. I am going to f**king butcher you. Your teeth. I'm going to put them on a f**king necklace."

"Speak on my skills as a father? You are f**king dead."

He then sent another message before signing off with: "See you in July."
