Cardio. Cardio. Cardio. Sex. And some more cardio. Derrick Lewis' training camp in a nutshell.
The charismatic heavyweight fights for gold at UFC 230 after stopping Alexander Volkov in dramatic fashion earlier in the month.
Advert
He takes on Daniel Cormier for all the marbles and in preparation, he's focusing on his cardio which includes having a lot of sex.
Lewis was originally wary of his cardio and conditioning but he's convinced himself that by having sex it will counter Cormier's elite level wrestling.
Interesting theory.
Well, this is the man who whipped off his shorts inside the Octagon after complaining of hot balls.
It's been said that fighters shouldn't have sex before a fight though Lewis says he's busted this myth,
"Not me. Some times, a couple of times, I had sex the same day as I fought," he added.
"Just to see if that myth was right, and it wasn't right. But I was sleepy afterwards but I still had the energy though."
Is Lewis deserving of a shot at a UFC title? He certainly thinks so whilst refusing to call himself a mixed-martial-artist.
"Of course they would say that [I don't deserve it], I guess just because my fighting style. Everyone else is a mixed martial artist.
"I'm not a mixed martial artist, I'm a brawler. Basically, I guess they just thinking I've been winning my fights just by luck. I just think I've been winning my fights on heart."
Cormier vs. Lewis headlines UFC 230 from Madison Square Garden in New York on November 3rd.
