Diaz has one fight left on his UFC deal, with White working on his next and potentially final Octagon outing.
And it appears the UFC president has a name in mind and plans to talk to the Stockton slugger about it ahead of officially booking the bout.
Enter Khamzat Chimaev.
White wants to book Chimaev against Diaz following his big win over Li Jingliang at UFC 267.
'Borz' made a sensational return to the UFC, submitting the Chinese fighter in the very first round of their welterweight contest.
Asked if the Chechnya-born Swedish national could be next for the American veteran, the UFC boss replied: "We're gonna talk to Nate about it. One hundred percent."
White continued by talking up Chimaev, who won his fourth straight fight in the UFC last weekend.
"One hundred percent, this guy is like nothing that anybody's ever seen," he added. "When you think about, he's got more UFC wins than he's been hit inside the octagon. Insane.
"And the other night, our social team, they filmed his walkout on Instagram Live, it broke the record. It's the biggest Instagram Live we've ever done."
The 27-year-old reintroduced himself to the MMA world and called out Diaz as well as Jorge Masvidal following his 10th career victory.
He said: "Hey, Diaz, let's go, brother.
"Let's go. You gonna get some smoke, bro. Let's see who is the real gangster.
"Masvidal in his last fight he has some belt," added Chimaev referring to the 'BMF' title. "I'm going to take everything from this UFC, brother. Now I am UFC, brother.
"Fight, fight, fight - I love this sh*t, bro," he continued. "Make money, and it makes me happy to do this for you guys."
