Dana White has shot down the idea of MMA legend Anderson Silva facing former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.

Silva and Pettis exchanged messages on social media as they stoked up a potential UFC clash inside the famed Octagon.

But the UFC president isn't "crazy about" the fight and insists it doesn't mean anything.

"I'm not crazy about it," he explained. "You've got a guy that fought at 145 pounds and a guy that's in the conversation for the GOAT at 185 pounds and walks around at 210, 215. It's not a big fight that really means something. I like making fights that mean something, so I'm not crazy about that fight."

Silva, 45, has also called for a showdown with Conor McGregor which White is also uninterested in making.

In fact, the UFC boss is unsure what to do with the Brazilian who has two fights left on his contract.

"I don't know," White added. "I honestly don't know what to do with his last two fights.

"When Anderson's really ready to fight, we'll sit down and look at it, and we'll figure out what we thinks makes sense for him next. There's a lot of things that goes into the decision-making process with an Anderson Silva. His age, what he gets paid - all that stuff's important."

Silva hasn't fought since his losing to Jared Cannonier at UFC 237 in May 2019.

The ex-UFC middleweight title holder is 1-6-1 in his last eight outings. He hasn't won a fight since UFC 208 in February 2017.
