Conor McGregor apparently DM'ing Hollywood bombshell Megan Fox caused the red carpet scuffle with Machine Gun Kelly.

McGregor and Kelly had to be separated at the MTV Video Music Awards in Brooklyn on Sunday.

A video shows the UFC superstar throwing a drink at Kelly and his girlfriend Fox.

Initial reports claimed that McGregor asked 'MGK' for a photo and was denied, prompting the altercation.

However, fresh reports now suggest that the bust-up between the former UFC champion and the American rapper was over alleged DMs from McGregor to Fox.

That's according to tabloid show Extra.

McGregor himself addressed the situation almost immediately after it happened.

He said: "I don't know. He showed up, and I don't know. I don't know the guy.

"Nothing happened with me, I only fight real fighters, people that actually fight, you know what I mean? I certainly don't fight little vanilla boy rappers.

"I don't even know the guy. I don't know anything about him, except that he's with Megan Fox."

McGregor attended the star-studded event with the help of a cane as he recovers from his broken leg that he suffered in his last UFC fight.

He lost his trilogy bout to Dustin Poirier by doctor's stoppage after snapping his lower leg in the first round.

The 33-year-old, though, told reporters he reckons he could kick right now.

"I feel like I could kick right now," he explained. "I honestly feel like I could kick right now, but I've just got to listen to the doctors, listen to the people that are guiding me.

"That's what I've done so far, I've committed myself to the work and I'm back on the feet. It's so good to be back on the feet."
