Conor McGregor's teammate James Gallagher suffered his first career loss to a brutal knockout by Ricky Bandejas in 2018 after screaming in his face before their bantamweight clash.

Bandejas beat Gallagher at Bellator 204 in August 2018 as he produced a phenomenal performance to earn a stunning victory.

The American thought the promotion were setting him up to lose as the talk surrounding the fight was how a win for Gallagher would secure him a title shot.

But Bandejas nipped that in the bud as he stopped 'The Strabanimal' in ruthless fashion after an intense build-up which saw the Irishman taunt his opponent at the weigh-ins.

And when both fighters were introduced, Gallagher screamed in Bandejas' face as security separated them moments before their bout.

Bandejas then dropped Gallagher in the early exchanges with a stinging right hand before landing a devastating head kick flush on his chin.

Bandejas then launched a vicious ground assault as referee Bobby Wombacher called a halt to the contest two minutes and 49 seconds into the first round.

Speaking after the fight, Bandejas said he received "thousands" of grateful comments.

"Hundreds, thousands of comments saying how happy they are this happened to him," he said.

"It's terrible, but at the same time it gives him attention and the promoters love attention, whether it's good or bad, it doesn't matter."

He continued by revealing what Gallagher said to him during the heated staredowns.

"'10-2. You're not on my level. I'm on a new level. I'm going to smash you.' Things like that. (Before the fight) he was down right around the corner, you heard him screaming," he added.

"'Ricky, I'm coming. 10-2. You're not on my level. You're fucked.' He didn't bother me at all, but in the hallway and when he got in my face in the cage, I was like, 'How could this guy be so confident?'"
