Day one of the Qatar Goodwood Festival gets underway at the Sussex venue and here are Danny Archer's selections...

1:50 Goodwood - Khairaat 8/1 Each-Way and UAE Prince 15/2 Each-Way.

Sir Michael Stoute's Khairaat was bitterly disappointing in the Wolverton Handicap at Royal Ascot last time but had previously won nicely at Chester. The return to a tighter track should suit and he remains open to further improvement.

UAE Prince is regally bred but has so far failed to live up to the hype. He did however finish a close fourth at York last time and whilst the way that race unfolded helped his chances, he is unexposed and if able to overcome a wide draw, he cannot be ruled out.

2:25 Goodwood - Seahenge 3/1 and Curiosity 20/1 Each-Way.

Narrow winner at Naas last time but worth more than the winning margin suggests as he stayed on powerfully to score a tad comfortably. He will have learnt a lot from that run and should appreciate the step up to seven furlongs hailing from a yard who won this last year with War Decree.

Curiosity has done everything right in his last two starts when winning snugly on both occasions. That include an impressive success at Ascot last time in which he travelled into contention smoothly before putting the race to bed in a matter of strides. This is another step up but he is open to further improvement.

3:00 Goodwood - Librisa Breeze 11/2 Each-Way and Home Of The Brave 15/2 Each-Way.

Librisa Breeze was a fine fourth in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot last time and will relish the return to seven furlongs here and softer conditions.

Home Of The Brave will also handle conditions and as a front runner, could prove hard to peg back.

3:35 Goodwood - Big Orange evs NAP.

Michael Bell's charge was a gutsy winner of the Ascot Gold Cup last time where he narrowly landed the spoils under a fine front running ride by James Doyle. That outlined his credentials as one of the finest middle distance staters of his generation and with the ground drying up, that plays right into his hands.

The possibility of a soft lead and Frankie Dettori in the saddle are also benefits and he looks capable of landing this race for the third time in a row.

4:10 Goodwood - Tribal Quest 9/4.

Charlie Appleby's charge was narrowly beaten at Newmarket last time over seven furlongs but should appreciate the return to six furlongs for connections in excellent form.

4:45 Goodwood - Atletico 9/2 and Boom The Groom 7/1 Each-Way.

Atletico got a confidence boosting win at Windsor last time and whilst he has another quick run in succession, there remains further improvement in his mark.

Boom The Groom is a crowd favourite and he won this event in 2016. He was a respectable sixth in the Dash at Epsom in June before becoming unstuck in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot last time. This track will suit him more.

5:15 Goodwood - Pretty Asset 4/1 and Shenanigans 12/1 Each-Way.

Godolphin's Pretty Asset was slowly away at Newmarket on her debut, but she made up plenty of ground to win pretty comfortably, going away at the line. It's tough to really gauge the form but she did everything right and can only improve.

Roger Varian's Shenanigans was a narrow second to today's favourite Tribute Act at Doncaster on just his second run on turf. She should have learnt plenty and is interesting.
