A total of 19 players have now withdrawn from Wimbledon in the weeks, days or even hours before their first round matches.
Emma Raducanu has become the latest absentee from Wimbledon, having announced on Sunday that she had suffered a lower leg stress fracture.
There had been concern about the 2021 US Open champion's fitness after she failed to appear at a practice session on Wednesday and withdrew from her press conference commitments.
She said on Sunday that she 'planned to play' at Wimbledon after completing an hour-long practice session, but by the evening it was announced that she would not be competing.
Advert
Raducanu stated that what had initially started out as a 'niggle' in her leg had turned into a stress fracture, and that she had been advised by medical staff not to play.

The 22-year-old had been drawn against Antonia Ruzic in the first round and has now been replaced by lucky loser Darja Semenistaja.
Raducanu is now one of 19 players who has had to withdraw from this year's Wimbledon Championships before being able to play a match, with fellow British hopeful Jack Draper forced to pull out on the eve of his opening match due to an ongoing arm injury.
Wimbledon 2026 withdrawals
The most high-profile withdrawal was that of ATP world number two Carlos Alcaraz, who pulled out of Wimbledon last month due to an ongoing wrist injury.
The 11th seed Lorenzo Musetti also withdrew in May due to a thigh injury suffered during the Italian Open, while world number 20 Valentin Vacherot experienced foot pain during a doubles match earlier this month which was later diagnosed as a stress fracture.
Former world number four Holger Rune still hasn't returned from a torn Achilles tendon suffered at the end of last season, while Italy's Mattia Bellucci entered Wimbledon but withdrew after the main draw.
On the women's singles side, Raducanu is not the only British star who is unable to play at SW19.
Sonay Kartal, who reached the fourth round of Wimbledon last year and climbed to as high as 44th in the WTA rankings, has seen her 2026 season blighted by injuries and is recovering from a lower back injury.
Victoria Mboko, who was due to be seeded 10th at Wimbledon, suffered a knee injury while playing in the doubles event at Eastbourne alongside Serena Williams.
The Canadian, who won her first WTA 1000 tournament last year at the Canadian Open, failed to recover to play in the remainder of the Eastbourne tournament and was forced to pull out of Wimbledon as well.
American star Hailey Baptiste is the other seeded player who is out of the women's singles, also due to a knee problem.
2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova is serving a four-year ban, pending appeal, in relation to anti-doping whereabouts violations.
