Moutet's clash against Nicolas Jarry was controversial, to say the least.

It is a match that was described by popular YouTuber Wivo as being "one of the most bizarre and chaotic you will ever witness" – and it's hard to disagree when you watch back the footage.

Coming into last year's Chile Open quarter-finals in Santiago, many backed defending champion and top seed Nicolas Jarry to beat French qualifier Corentin Moutet on home soil.

Moutet, who was World No. 140 at the time, arrived on the famous clay without a tournament win at ATP Tour level, so plenty were already looking forward to an all-Chilean semi-final between Jarry and Alejandro Tabilo.

But to his credit, the Frenchman played like a man possessed, nullifying his opponent's error-prone display with a number of world class shots as he secured a memorable 7-6(5), 7-6(3) win over the overwhelming favourite.

Moutet's brilliance on the court, however, was mixed with a touch of arrogance, which certainly riled up the Santiago crowd.

In fact, as you can see from the footage below, Moutet kicked things off with an underarm serve to secure the first points of the match – a moment that brought whistles and boos from those in the stands.

YouTube creator WivoRN Productions has created a 19-minute overview of the match on his channel, and his introduction to the viral video sums it up perfectly.

"Trust me when I tell, this is one of the most bizarre and chaotic games you will ever see," he began.

"Moutet brought absolute madness to the quarter-finals - yelling at the crowd, talking to himself and unleashing underarm serves. It was pure genius. Across the net, the hometown hero was trying to hold it together."

He went on to describe the tennis match as "an absolute circus".

After the quarter-final was over, Moutet claimed his opponent called him "pathetic" as they exchanged words at the net.

“He said ‘pathetic’, I don’t know why. I behaved well,” Moutet told Clay Tennis. “There were so many people against me, booing, making noise when I was serving. So I think I didn’t do anything ‘pathetic’.

"I think I survived well, I played good. You should ask him why he said that. We are not exactly best friends on tour, actually I don’t know him well.”

“It’s unfortunate because there was not a pleasant atmosphere," he added. "I like playing in Chile: in the qualifying and in all my matches they supported me because I opened my heart, I gave a lot to the people and shared with them.

"Sport is made for that. My coach and my family are here, I know what I did right or wrong and today I did everything right."

Where to buy last-minute Wimbledon tickets

The Wimbledon ballot may have closed for another year, but it’s not too late to buy advance tickets if you know where to look.

If you don’t mind splashing out on the experience, Seat Unique has the option to book ‘VIP Debenture Behind The Server’ and ‘VIP Debenture Front 5 Rows’ tickets.

These tickets offer 'unparalleled views' of the court, so you won't miss out on any of the action.

As for resale tickets, you'll want to head over to StubHub and Viagogo.
