Novak Djokovic has issued an update on whether he will feature at the 2026 French Open, while reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz’s participation remains touch-and-go following a wrist injury.
Following his withdrawal from the Barcelona Open last week, concerns have been raised over Alcaraz’s involvement in the second Grand Slam of the season.
The Spaniard pulled out of the event after picking up a wrist injury following his first-round victory.
Alcaraz, who is now world number two, won last year’s French Open final against world number one Jannik Sinner; however, he has admitted that upcoming tests on his injured wrist will be “crucial” in determining whether he will make an appearance at Roland Garros, with the Grand Slam set to take place between May 24 and June 6.

"We've been trying to do everything we can to make sure that this test goes well," Alcaraz told Spanish television channel TVE.
"I'm trying to be very patient. But we are good and just waiting a little bit.
"We have a few tests in the next few days, and then we will see how the injury is and what the next steps will be."
The seven-time Grand Slam winner also went on to say that he would “rather come back later” than “early” and “unwell”.
Novak Djokovic issues French Open fitness update
Meanwhile, world number four and 24-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic’s fitness is also a concern, with the Serb recently withdrawing from the Monte Carlo Masters, Miami Open and Madrid Open due to a right shoulder injury.
He has not played since losing to Jack Draper in the fourth round at Indian Wells.
The tennis legend issued an update on his fitness when speaking at the 2026 Laureus Awards, which he hosted alongside Olympic skier Eileen Gu on Monday (April 20).
"Yes, I can't participate in the Mutua tournament [Madrid Open], but I'm here in Madrid again, which I really like," he said.
"Obviously, this event here tonight is one of my favourite events of the year because I have the opportunity to interact with all the legends of other sports.
"I also have a different role this year with Eileen Gu; we're presenting, which is really nice. I have an injury, and I hope to be ready at least for Roland Garros.
“I’m working to get to Rome, but I can’t make a prediction now because it depends on the progress of the injury. At least for Roland Garros, I’m ready.”
Djokovic has not lifted a major since defeating Daniil Medvedev in the 2023 US Open final.
